Historic day in St. John Bosco C.C

The 31st of January is the feast day of St. John Bosco, patron of the Community College in Kildysart. This year students, staff and parents had the honour of having Bishop Kieran O'Reilly to celebrate Mass with local parish priest, Fr. Albert Mc Donnell in the school.
John Bosco founded the salesians in Italy in the 19th Century. The Salesian sisters ran a secondary school in Cahercon from 1963-1999 which amalgamated with the Vocational school in Kildysart to form the new Community College. Srs. Maureen and Dympna (members of the board of Management) represented the salesian congregation at the mass.

In his homily Bishop Kieran reminded students of their good fortune to be part of such a big international organisation like the salesians. He first met them in Maynooth College and later in his various ministries in Africa.

Young people, he said, should strive to be the best they can - never accept second best in work or recreation. That is what being a saint really means.
Afterwards young and old enjoyed refreshments and traditional Irish music in the school's general purpose area.
